Dress The Mood: Part 2
In the previous “Dress The Mood” post we talked about how your mood effects your wardrobe choices. When you feel happy, you naturally gravitate towards something colorful or bright. When you feel sad, you are more likely to pick up a neutral sweater paired with your comfy denim. But as we said, this is not always the case.
Let's flip the mood
This morning I simply did not want to get out of bed. It was one of those mornings that my "to do" list was overwhelming. I wanted to sleep the day away instead of being the "seize the day" type of person I try to be. Often times, this is the case. I don't want to rise and shine. I want to throw my covers over my head and forget my worries. But life forces you to get up and get going no matter your mood.
So I say, RISE......and force yourself to SHINE!
The last #dressthemood was all about dressing how you feel. While this often happens unconsciously, I invite you to be conscious of your outfit choice in order to flip your mood! Instead of throwing on a Tee and jeans and paying no mind to your hair and makeup when you're not feeling so hot, take some time to choose an outfit that makes you feel good. Put on fun colors, any outfit that you love or anything that makes you feel good. In response, your mood can change positively. I know that when I feel like I look good I'm more inclined to want to be productive.
Let’s get REAL for a second. I've heard that a woman tends to look her best when she is on her period. This is because she overcompensates on her outfit, hair and makeup because she may have a hormonal zit or just feel gross. This, of course, is not always the case but it is exactly what #dressthemood part 2 is about.
I have tried it out. Most times than not it works. Some days flipping my mood by outfit choice gets me out of my rut completely. For example, when it's that time of the month a good outfit will make me feel myself again. Other times, harder times, it's only helps to elevate my mood and does not completely change it. But I say IT IS BETTER THAN NO CHANGE. It is important to try to seek positivity and love for yourself even when you don't feel it.
Spending a few extra minutes on YOU in the morning even when your mood is upside down can turn that mood around.
My #OOTD changes my bad mood into something more positive.
I'd love to point out that being conscious of your mood is the first step and having the willingness to change it is crucial for change. Spending a few extra minutes on YOU in the morning in order to promote a positive mood can be done in more ways than outfits. A good breakfast, a short workout, yoga, or simply mindful breathing. Spending time on yourself is what is important because you are undoubtedly important!
